How to Choose Between a Full Session and a Petite Session

If you’re looking for family portraits in Buffalo, NY, you might be wondering:

“Should we book a full session, or wait for one of your seasonal petite sessions?” It’s a common question!

I only offer petite sessions at certain times of year - usually late summer to fall - so here’s how to decide what’s right for your family.

Whether you're hoping to capture a handful of updated photos or tell a deeper story with your images, there’s a perfect session for that — and hopefully this blog post will help you decide.

What’s the difference?

Let’s break it down:

🕰️ Full Session

  • More time, more variety, more flexibility

  • Typically 60 minutes

  • You choose the location (I’ll help with ideas!)

  • Great for families who want a full gallery with connection, candids, and storytelling

  • Extra time for to shake out any nerves if little ones feel shy

  • Includes a higher print credit and access to more product options

Full sessions are ideal if you’re looking for:

  • A storytelling experience with room to breathe

  • Milestone moments or annual updates you want to frame

  • A relaxed, unhurried vibe that lets your family be fully themselves

⏱️ Petite Session

  • Short, sweet, and beautifully simple

  • Approximately 30 minute session

  • Held at a pre-selected location on specific dates

  • A great option for quick seasonal photos, first-timers, or families with little ones who max out fast

  • Smaller gallery with just the highlights

Petite sessions are ideal if you’re looking for:

  • A few updated family photos

  • Holiday card images

  • A simpler, budget-friendly way to experience professional photography

Not sure what to choose?

If you’re feeling torn, here’s a good rule of thumb:

👉 Go with a full session if you want connection, flexibility, and a full story.
👉 Try a petite session if you want a quick, easy, and beautiful refresh.

And if this is your first session with me, a petite session can be a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera before diving into the full experience later!
